Challenged to Be Better and to Do Better

As a kid, my grandmother taught me that challenges are what make us stronger. She motivated me, instilled confidence in me, and taught me to appreciate the opportunity there is in adversity. Growing up, I didn’t fully understand this, yet my grandmother always challenged me to be better and to do better. Now more than ever, we need leaders who will hold themselves to a higher standard. To be respectful, honest, and decent. To understand that — their actions, just as their words — matter. Our leaders should always strive to be better and to do better.

That’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for an at-large seat on the Virginia Beach School Board. If you’re tired of seeing our leaders harbor conflict that only divides us or plays politics with the issues that matter most to us? Then join me, there’s no time for waiting or sitting on the sidelines. At this moment, we have an opportunity to meet some of the biggest challenges ahead of us. And provide solutions to closing the achievement gap, increasing teacher and support staff salaries, make our schools safe, and so much more.

I believe in our School Division and the potential it has to be even better, but first, that begins with a change in leadership. Our School Board lacks diversity in age and thought, a fresher perspective from a recent graduate, would provide clarity and optimism for the future. Moreover, our School Board needs a leader who builds consensus and recognizes the opportunity there is every day to be better and to do better.
